HELPFUL HINTS
The radio is to be used for business purposes only;
Stay calm in all situations
Hold the microphone approximately two inches from your lips.
Speak clearly and distinctly into the microphone
Speak at a normal voice level, do not shout.
Repeat your call if necessary. Continue to repeat your call until a reply is received or you repeat it at least three times.
OPERATING TEN CODES:
Operating ten codes are critical for effective communication and should be memorized. The following are examples of codes you should use:
- 10-1 Signal poor; receiving poorly
- 10-2 Signal good; receiving good
- 10-4 Affirmative, okay
- 10-5 Stuck in congestive traffic
- 10-6 Busy, call only if in an emergency
- 10-7 Out of service
- 10-8 In Service
- 10-9 Repeat; say again
- 10-20 Location
- 10-36 Correct Time
EMERGENCY TEN CODES:
- 10-33 Accident; emergency
- 10-60 Emergency, have principal meet bus
- 10-70 Student has a weapon
- 10-80 Student has drugs
- 10-90 Gang problems on bus
- 10-100 Mechanical breakdown
