STUDENT STOPS / PICKUPS
(Student Loading)
(Turn around AFTER picking up students and BEFORE dropping off students.)
- Activate ambers at 100 -500 feet before student stop.
- Using all appropriate mirrors, check traffic.
- Begin to slow down the bus.
- Locate the stop and count students.
- Stop bus 15 feet short of the students, or at the point you can see their feet. (Give students a safe place to walk to and board the bus.) Do not block intersections or driveways.
- Parking brake on
- Neutral (wheels straight ahead)
- Using mirrors, check to see that traffic has stopped.
- Open Door to activate reds and stop arm.
- Using mirrors, check to see that traffic has stopped - AGAIN!
- Signal students to cross (pa) or to board
- Count students as they board bus (give safety reminders) (Get Out And Look if you can't account for all students you saw when arriving.)
- Check for late students in surrounding areas
- When students are seated, close door (deactivating reds)
- Transmission in gear
- Parking brake OFF
- Drive forward still looking for late students.
